Would like to share information with anyone who is working on the CLARK family in Linn Co., Mo. I understand from a relative long dead that one member of my family migrated to Linn Co. from Tn. in the 1840's or 1850's. He was active in county government and later bacame a judge. My source has proven correct in other instances. From his information I was able to locate brothers of my gg grandfather in Crittenden County, Ky. and in Osage Co., Mo. and from this found out who their father and grandfather were, all of this by computer and since June of 1997. I thank you in advance for any help you can give me. My smail adress is 3975 Deer Run Way, Sacramento, Ca. 95823, phone 916-391-4183.

Our great-grandfather, William BENNETT, and his brother (name unknown) lived near Browning about 1850-1860. One of my cousins from California located the home place a few years ago and visited there, and a Bennett family still lived there--and the gentleman looked just like one of my first cousins (like a young Willie Nelson). Are there still Bennetts-- cousins we don't know--on the home place near Browning? William's children: Hiram, Francis, Melvin, Elizabeth, Martha and Cynthia. None of the girls' married names are known to us. We descend from Melvin. Thank you. Shirley Anderson, West Texas

Jonathan the elder, died Dec. 1884, and George SPENCE is listed as a grandson, married and living in Linneus,Linn, MO. Any links or help would be greatly appreciated. Date: 16 October 1997

Name: Eric Stedman
STEDMAN family lived in Bucklin or surrounding area 1864-1880s.

Parents John STEDMAN (b. 1820's, Ohio) and Nancy KELLY STEDMAN traveled there with other families from southeastern Ohio (including Samuel and Esther KELLY and John and Elizabeth KELLY), and their four young children:

Mary STEDMAN (b.1858, Ohio--d. 1882, Mo.?)
William H. STEDMAN (1860, Ohio--1928, Pa.)
Samuel STEDMAN (c.1861, Ohio-?)
George STEDMAN (1862, Ohio--1884, Mo?)
and had one more child there:
Esther STEDMAN (c.1866--1920's, Ohio)
When Nancy, the children's mother, died in 1868, most of the children were split up to live with foster families. All were separated when father John died in 1875 or 1876.

Mary Stedman married William D. BAKER (c.1877--1920's?) and had one child, Rosa BAKER, in around 1878, before Mary died at age 24. Rosa, who was still alive in 1928, seems to have married a man named JOLLY or FOLLY in about 1898, and had two sets of twins, as well as a son named Willie JOLLY or FOLLY, who were all also still alive in 1928. I would love to know more about this family if anyone knows anything. I can send a photograph of them if interested.

Though John, Mary, and George Stedman all appear to have died in the Bucklin area within ten years or so of each other, I know nothing more of any evidence of the family there than the fact that Nancy Stedman is buried in the "Old Bucklin Cemetery," though her husband is not beside her. Does anyone know of a grave for John or George Stedman, or Mary Stedman Baker, or William D. Baker?

Most of my information comes from old family letters and photographs and the 1870 census. If you know anything more about any of these people, I would be glad to hear it, and glad to share anything I know if you happen to have a connection with any of the above. The letters and photos are very interesting!

Eric Stedman

Charles (b. unknown date)

The other children of Adam & Louisa KNAPP I really don't have any information on however, Frances either married or died in Linn Co. MO between 1870-1880 because she was not listed in 1880 Census Linn Co. however, had been listed in 1870 Census; I am sure the other children went to whatever schooling they had in Linn Co. Adam KNAPP died 10/25/1878 in Linn Co MO. Adam KNAPP had property and was a farmer, when he died his wife Louisa took over. In the 1870 and 1880 Census Linn Co. listed the township as Locust Creek. Does anyone recognize any of these names? I am curious as to father and mother names for Adam KNAPP. Did he have any siblings? What professions did his children or grandchildren have? Who did Frances KNAPP marry? What did they grow "as farmers"? Was it sold to townfolk, or just for the family? I would like any information that might be available. Thank you in advance. Jeanne.

I am looking for possible proof that Mary Karinak SEABOLT daughter of Wayman SEABOLT and Margaret GILLESPIE was born in Linn County on 1 July 1858. There is a delayed entry in the Smyth Co. Va birth book but she lists Linn Co. Mo. on her marriage certificate. Wondering if Wayman and Margaret were there in 1858. They were in Kansas in 1869 . Any information on the SEABOLT family would be helpful.

Looking for descendants of James A. MORRIS and his wife Sarah Ann WRIGHT. This couple was from Taylor County, Ky. I was fortunate in finding them by means of a deed of conveyance for Sarah Ann, selling her interest in the property of her maternal grandparents Thomas and Elizabeth HELTON. They were known to be in Linn County in 1891. Any help will be appreciated.

William S. & Frances Slaton HOWELL [1811-1869] came to Linn Co, MO., near Meadville, from Hopkins Co KY; date is unknown. They had 7 children, believed to have been born in KY: Roxanne, Angeline, Martha, Zillah, Nancy, Catherine, & Lilburn L. Howell. It is assumed that they are buried in Linn Co.

Roxanne [Roxy] Howell m. Benjamin Bradshaw HANCOCK. They lived in Hopkins - later Webster Co - KY & are buried there. B. B. Hancock had some brothers who also went from Hopkins Co KY to MO ... names, date & place unknown.

They were accompanied by - or joined by - Frances' brother George SLATON [1829-1889]. It is thought that George left Hopkins Co in 1867. George later moved to Georgetown, TX where he was listed as "hotel keeper" in 1880 Census; he was a resident there at the time of his death, but did not die there. He died while visiting family near Meadville, MO, at the home of his nephew Lilburn. The body was returned to his home in TX for burial.

Although our family has information on the family in KY & VA, we know nothing of the ones who went to MO. Any help greatly appreciated. TIA.
